Tempo FM – March 2016
After winning the American Musical Theatre Academy’s worldwide solo musical theatre competition, danSing senior, Alice Wright, was interviewed by reporter Eric Ovendon for local radio. Alice chatted about her success and aspirations after singing at a Women’s World Day of Prayer event in Wetherby. The interview and her heartfelt performance were broadcast on Tempo FM.
Tempo FM – December 2015
Tempo FM Presenter, Stuart Robinson, interviewed Sarah Britton from The Friends of Alfie Martin Charity and danSing Musical Director, Helen Leaf, about the forthcoming charity concert “When Love Came Down” which is to take place during Christmas week. Helen talked about the concert programme and special guest perfomer, Mike Lovatt, lead trumpet with the renowned John Wilson Orchestra. danSing seniors, Sally Hall, Alice Wright and Max Tennant delighted listeners with a live performance of a festive harmony trio from the concert.
ITV’s X Factor – September 2015
Former danSinger and danSing for Shine guest soloist, Sophie Stott, appeared on the 2015 series of The X Factor. Sophie performed at the X Factor boot camp and, although she didn’t progress to the live finals, she is currently signed as a singer-songwriter to Hot Vox Management.
Katie Skinner on BBC Radio One – July 2015
Former danSing senior, Katie Skinner, was signed to a record deal just hours after her song Dangerous Game was played on BBC Radio One! Katie’s track was played by BBC Presenter Jericho Keys who was covering for Huw Stevens on Radio One’s evening show. Katie is now signed to Anonymous Records.
Tempo FM – Interview with Stuart Robinson – July 2015
On July 24th 2015, danSing Musical Director, Helen Leaf and danSing for Shine guest performer, Bethany Hare were interviewed by Tempo FM’s Programme Controller and Presenter, Stuart Robinson. Helen talked about danSing for Shine, her work as a singing teacher and danSing’s exciting future plans. Bethany discussed the Bethany’s Smile charity, her future plans as a performer and sang two songs live on air.
ITV Calendar News – 2nd May 2014
danSing inters appeared on Calendar News with Brackenfield School Choir, conducted by danSing Musical Director, Helen Leaf, in a feature about World War I. The choir had previously won the Harrogate Festival Year 6 Choir Class with a medley of a songs to commemorate the centenary of the Great War arranged especially for the choir by Helen. The story behind Brackenfield’s connection to the song “Pack up your Troubles” was reported for ITV’s Calendar by Lisa Adlam.
Stray FM – Local Hero Awards – May 2014
Helen leaf, danSing studio’s Musical Director, was one of four finalists shortlisted for The Teacher of The Year category at the Stray FM Local Hero Awards 2014. These annual Awards recognise individuals who are inspiring and “have gone above and beyond to achieve something extraordinary.” Helen was nominated for her work as Head of Performing Arts at Brackenfield School, as Co-Founder of danSing and for her individual singing and musical theatre teaching.
Showcase – BBC’s “The Voice UK” – 12th May 2014
danSing was delighted to host a Showcase for the popular BBC singing show “The Voice”. danSing’s directors, Helen and Jane, were contacted by Alicia Sandler from the show and asked to recommend talented singers, aged 16 and over, who would like to audition for series 4.
The showcase gave senior danSing students past and present, and singers recommended by Helen’s performing arts’ colleagues the amazing opportunity to perform for members of “The Voice” team. Each singer was interviewed and invited to perform their chosen song to piano/guitar accompaniment, backing track or “a cappella”. These performances were filmed for the London producers.
Alicia and her team were delighted with danSing’s showcase and said that they had seen some amazing singers and were really excited about seeing them all at the auditions in June and July. They looked forward to working with danSing again in the future.
Sports Relief Does Glee Club – CBBC Auditions Oct and Dec 2012
Eight members of the danSing senior group formed glee group Gr8 Expectations and travelled to Manchester in October 2012 to audition for the CBBC programme, Comic Relief Does Glee Club. The group impressed celebrity vocal coach, John Modi, and were selected as one of the 24 groups to take part in the televised judges auditions at BBC Television Centre in London.
Gr8 Expectations had a super trip to London in December and auditioned in front of Carrie and David Grant, John Modi and special guest judge, singer-songwriter and TV presenter, Dionne Bromfield.
Although the group didn’t make it through to the final 15 Glee Clubs, Gr8 Expectations’ performance was featured in one of the first three programmes of the 2013 series of Comic Relief Does Glee and it was exciting to see Max, Will, Josh, Elin, Faye, Alice, Amelia and Shivani performing “Pinball Wizard” on television!
Wayne Bavin’s Broadcastathon – Tempo FM – 2011
danSing lent its support to DJ Wayne Bavin and local radio station Tempo FM. Wayne, who was one of the judges at danSing’s Behind the Scenes with Roycey X Factor Competition, presented a mammoth 60 hour “Broadcastathon” to raise money for BBC Children in Need. danSing’s Musical Director, Helen Leaf, donated a recording one of her own songs, “Plead For Me”, to Tempo and listeners pledged money to hear the song. Helen and other danSingers were interviewed on air.
Britain’s Got Talent – Manchester Auditions
In November 2009, seniors and juniors combined to audition for Britain’s Got Talent 2010. The group travelled to Manchester and impressed at the producer’s audition with “Bohemian Rhapsody” and were invited to perform a second song choice, “Hallelujah” from The Soulful Messiah. Unfortunately, danSing didn’t make it through to the live auditions, but had a fantastic day. The final was won by the amazing gymnastic group, Spellbound.
Star Search (Stray FM) – December 2008
danSing musical director and singing coach, Helen Leaf was invited to appear as a guest judge for Stray FM Radio’s Star Search Competition. Helen judged acts from around the region in heats and joined Apprentice Finalist, Kristina Grimes, Excelle Magazine’s Amy Bell and others on the judging panel for the glittering final at Harrogate’s Royal Hall on December 7th 2008.
